by | Mar 14, 2025 | News, ORCA

It's almost spring! Learn how to ride transit to see the cherry blossoms around Seattle in the coming weeks.

It’s almost spring and that means it’s cherry blossom season! Every year, in late March and April, the start of spring in Seattle is announced by delicate pink cherry blossoms. There are lots of great spots in the city to enjoy them, and we want to let you know how to get to some of the best spots by transit!

One of the most iconic views in Seattle is of the University of Washington Quad, filled with flowering cherry blossom trees, with Mt. Rainier peeking out in the background. There are other beautiful (and less crowded) spots to see the cherry blossoms as well. Below, we’ve outlined three of our favorite cherry blossoms viewing spots, along with how to use your ORCA card to get there!

  • The University of Washington Quad
This iconic location is accessible by taking the Link Light Rail to University of Washington Station and walking about 10 minutes to the Quad. It can also be reached by the following bus routes, with a 7-minute walk: 31, 32, 43, 44, 45, 48, 49, 65, 67, 70, 79, 255, 271, 372, 542, 556, and 586. This viewing spot tends to attract more people, plan accordingly and try to visit at a less busy time.
  • Washington Park Arboretum
The Washington Park Arboretum is perfect for a long walk through the park under a canopy of cherry blossoms. Within the park, walking the “Azalea Way” trail is a great way to view the trees. This park is accessible by the #11, #43, and #48 bus routes.
  • Seward Park / Lake Washington Blvd
Just north of Seward Park along Lake Washington Boulevard is another stunning spot to view the Seattle cherry blossoms. This walkway beside Lake Washington is often quieter and offers a view of Mt. Rainier. This spot is accessible by a short walk from the #50 bus. The #50 bus also connects to the Othello Link Light Rail Station!

Tips for Making Your Cherry Blossom Visit Great

  • Prepare your transit payment in advance. Bring a loaded ORCA card, exact change for King County Metro bus ($2.75) or light rail fare ($3.00), or have a ticket ready on the TransitGo app.
  • Use Google Maps to plan your route. You can map from your location to the cherry blossom viewing site of your choice, and then click the train icon to see the best routes for your trip.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Exploring Seattle’s cherry blossoms involves walking and standing for long periods of time.
  • Pack a snack or plan to stop for one along the way. A sweet treat makes any day better!
