Seattle voters have decisively backed Proposition 1, the Keep Seattle Moving Transportation Levy, securing critical funding for the city’s transportation future. With broad support from the City Council, Mayor Bruce Harrell, and a coalition of civic, business, and community organizations—including Commute Seattle—the levy passed with strong voter approval at over 66%.
The $1.55 billion levy will fund essential improvements to Seattle’s transportation infrastructure, focusing on maintenance, safety, increased options, and system reliability.
Key initiatives funded by the levy include:
- Improving bus service reliability, access, equity, and safety across the system
- Upgrades to Third Avenue, North America’s busiest transit corridor, to enhance bus stops and reduce travel times
- Investments in pedestrian and cyclist safety through improved infrastructure and traffic calming measures
- Ongoing maintenance and modernization of critical roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure to keep the city’s systems safe and functional
“By passing the Transportation levy, Seattle voters have once again prioritized safer streets and increased transportation options that make our city a more vibrant, equitable, sustainable place to live,” said Commute Seattle Executive Director Alex Hudson. “Transportation infrastructure touches our lives every day. The voter-approved levy investments will give people real choices in how they navigate our city and ensure our system remains well-maintained, modernized, and connected now and well into the future.”
With the passage of the levy, Seattle has dedicated funding for transportation improvements over the next eight years. Commute Seattle looks forward to working alongside city leaders, transit agencies, and local businesses to continue expanding transportation options, improving access to jobs and services, and supporting sustainable mobility across Seattle.
