Bikes & Bakeries Recap

by | Jun 11, 2019 | News

A look back on the first-ever Bikes & Bakeries challenge in celebration of Bike Month.

Commute Seattle’s first-ever Bikes & Bakeries Challenge was a success, in part because of our wonderful partners, participants, and people like YOU!

It was our first year doing a month-long challenge to encourage more people on bikes. Because it was our first year, we piloted Bikes & Bakeries Challenge with 17 bakeries across the City of Seattle, from Lake City to Georgetown, Seward Park to West Seattle.

We had 204 people ride their bikes to the participating bakeries, donations from 5 amazing bicycle shops, including a 2019 Rad Power Bike, and in culmination, over 30 people showed up to celebrate with us at Optimism Brewing Company on May 31st.

A big thanks to the many Employee Transportation Coordinators who shared and encouraged their coworkers to get out and ride. Many of them even rode their own bikes for the challenge! Our top 10 companies for communicating the Bikes & Bakeries Challenges to employees were:

  1. City of Seattle
  2. Seattle Central College
  3. MCG Health
  4. Garvey Schubert and Barer
  5. North Seattle College
  6. Milliman
  7. KPFF
  8. Washington State Attorney General’s Office
  9. Seattle Art Museum
  10. Comcast

Thanks for the support and participation from people like you, Commute Seattle considers the first-ever Bikes & Bakeries Challenge a great success! Stay tuned for more bike programming later this summer and early fall. View photos from our celebration event!

Happy riding!
