2024 Events Recap

With 2025 just around the corner, we’re taking a moment to reflect and celebrate all the events we had in 2024. This year, Commute Seattle got into the community with over a dozen events that reached over 3,700 people to promote a wide array of transportation options in our city. We joined our partners in commemorating the opening of the Lynnwood Link light rail extension and the RapidRide G Line, encouraged active commuters to keep rolling at our spring and fall bike events, and introduced interactive transit tours to inspire novice riders to try something new. And of course, we continued our robust programming for our audience of Employee and Building Transportation Coordinators with several educational and networking events throughout the year.

Let’s highlight a few of our favorites!

Partying for New Transit

2024 was a monumental year for our region’s transit system with the completion of several multi-year projects coming into service. Two of the biggest openings were the Lynnwood Link light rail extension (reaching north into Snohomish County for the first time!) and the RapidRide G Line opening in Madison Valley.

At the opening event for the Lynnwood Link in August, hosted by Sound Transit, Commute Seattle reached over 2,000 people at the new Shoreline North station, one of the four new stations. We shared “Day 1 Rider” stickers, gave everyone a chance to win a Boop Box, and asked where they were excited to ride the 1 Line.

At the King County Metro opening event for the RapidRide G Line in September, we welcomed over 400 attendees to our booth, handed out “Thank You” RapidRide bus stickers, and learned just how much this project meant to everyone. When we asked where everyone was excited to ride the G Line, many said to their homes, work, and other downtown destinations, but the most popular answer was to Trader Joe’s, highlighting the need for transit service to key destinations, like grocery stores.

Supporting Bikers and Walkers

We connected with active commuters at two events this year: Bike Everywhere Month and Light Up Your Trip. In May, we brought together our partners at Lake Union Park to celebrate Bike Everywhere Month with an event sponsored by Lime. Over 350 people stopped by to enjoy food, giveaways, and connect with resources to improve their experience cycling in Seattle.

In November, we partnered with the Downtown Seattle Association to host Light Up Your Trip in Westlake Park under sparkling holiday lights. This event celebrates staying safe, seen, and moving all winter long, and over 200 people walked away warmer, more informed, and equipped with more visibility gear to keep them seen in the darker months.

Introducing Transit Tours

In 2024, we had two opportunities to try out a new type of event and guide the transit-curious on rides on our buses, light rail, and fast ferries. In September, the Downtown Seattle Association hosted the International Downtown Association Conference for downtown place-making professionals from around the country. Commute Seattle took 25 attendees on a multi-modal tour of downtown Seattle on a beautiful late summer afternoon. From the light rail, the water taxi, a Lime bike ride, to the monorail, we circumnavigated the city and showed our visitors the incredible breadth of transportation options in our city and made the most of our ORCA cards.

In October, Transportation Transformations gave Employee and Building Transportation Coordinators a chance to ride the newly opened RapidRide G Line while learning about the many additional infrastructure improvements that occurred during its construction. They heard from experts at the Seattle Department of Transportation and had a chance to talk to their peers about their own experiences.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we map out our events calendar for 2025, we are excited to bring more fun and educational events to our community! Your feedback is valuable to ensure our programming is relevant, timely, and engaging. Let us know what you want to see in 2025!

Thank you to everyone who came to our events in 2024, and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025!
