2019 CTR Champions Celebration

by | Jun 5, 2019 | News

Our annual Commute Trip Reduction Champions celebration honoring employers offering outstanding commuter benefit programs.

We are excited to announce the 2019 Commute Trip Reduction Champions! In partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation, we recognized 89 out of nearly 300 CTR affected employers as CTR Champions. Six Seattle employers received the city’s highest “Platinum Level” recognition for outstanding commute programs. The awards event themed “Rapid Change, Great Opportunity” celebrated Seattle employers who have made significant investments in commuter benefits during the Seattle Squeeze.

Platinum Level Champions

Seattle Children’s

Seattle Children’s worksites have no free parking. They also know commute options need to be attractive to commuters, so they offer transit, vanpool, carpool, and bike subsidies. They also offer numerous in-house amenities like commute concierge, free shuttle, and bike service center. Finally, they offer $4.50 per day commute bonus given to each employee for not driving to work alone.

The Polyclinic- Broadway

The Polyclinic does a great job of prioritizing non-single occupancy vehicle commutes across the board, subsidizing virtually every other mode while offering no SOV parking for employees. The Polyclinic’s embrace of flexwork makes life easier for their employees, providing telework, flexible work schedules, compressed workweek, and flexible worksite options for commuters to avoid being stuck in traffic and commuting long distances during peak travel times.

University of Washington

The University of Washington subsidizes ORCA passes and vanpools and providing extensive bike commuter facilities while providing no free parking on campus. The University takes an innovative approach to new mobility options as well, partnering with Lime to have bike share available all over campus at a discount for UW community members, and reorienting their LINK Light Rail-adjacent parking to prioritize ride-hailing drop-offs over all-day parking.

Fred Hutch

Fred Hutch goes above and beyond to help their employees get to work, showing active, hands-on engagement throughout their commute programming. In addition to subsidizing ORCA passes, Vanpool and carpool, and bicycling, Fred Hutch staff provides commute concierge services to employees to find workable commuting options and has prioritized taking an active role in matching employees for ridesharing through online platforms and in-person workshops.

Washington State Ferries

WSDOT employees receive free or subsidized ORCA pass, they also receive an incentive to make a couple of bucks for commuting by foot, bike, or carpool. Employees can earn 75 cents each morning and evening commute trip for walking, biking, and carpooling (does not include riding the bus) for a maximum of $1.50 per day.

Swedish Medical Center- First Hill

Swedish Medical Center works hard to provide employees flexibility in their commutes while encouraging employees to leave their cars at home. Swedish’s ORCA pass, vanpool and carpool subsidies encourage employees to use transit or share a ride to work, while subsidized ZipCar memberships allow employees to still have the flexibility to drive between Swedish campuses and get to personal appointments without having to drive alone to work. Swedish has also leaned into flexwork for employees, offering telework, flexible scheduling and compressed workweeks to eligible employees.
