RapidRide G Line Opening

On September 14, Commute Seattle celebrated the opening of the RapidRide G Line, which connects downtown Seattle to Madison Valley. This new bus rapid transit line offers six-minute frequency during the day and operate 24/7. (To learn more about the project and what it means for Seattle as a whole, read our blog post here.)

On opening day, King County Metro hosted a street fair outside Mt Zion Baptist Church with live music and dance performances, tabling, and free food through the Intentionalist. Attendees could also check out a parked RapidRide G Line bus and take a close look at their unique features, including interior bike racks and boarding doors on both sides of the bus.

Commute Seattle welcomed over 400 attendees to our booth, giving away custom-designed “Thank You” RapidRide bus stickers, to show appreciation for the whole community’s sacrifices during this extended infrastructure project. We also asked folks what their favorite place on the G Line is and received almost 90 response. The most popular answers were home, Trader Joe’s, the Central Library, and Pony, showing that people were planning to use this new line for all sorts of trips beyond their work commute!

Thank you to King County Metro for planning the event and to all who came out to celebrate with us!
